Political Relations
UZBEKISTAN–KAZAKHSTAN RELATIONS
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan were established on November 23, 1992.
In 1993, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan was opened in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 2018, it was relocated to Astana (renamed Nur-Sultan in 2019). The diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan began operating in Tashkent in 1996.
Since 2018, General Consulates of the Republic of Uzbekistan have been opened in Almaty, and since 2019 in Aktau.
Since 1991, there have been 32 high-level reciprocal visits, including 10 since September 2016. In addition, the presidents of both countries regularly meet during multilateral international and regional events (12 meetings since 2016).

September 12, 2016 – Working visit of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to Samarkand, where he met with Acting President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

March 22–23, 2017 – State visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kazakhstan. A Joint Declaration on further deepening of strategic partnership and strengthening good-neighborly relations was adopted. 12 intergovernmental and interagency agreements were signed, including trade and economic deals worth $839.5 million.

April 29, 2017 – Working visit of President Mirziyoyev to South Kazakhstan region, meeting with President Nazarbayev.

September 16–17, 2017 – Return state visit of President Nazarbayev to Uzbekistan.

March 15, 2018 – President Mirziyoyev visited Kazakhstan to attend the 1st Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders.

March 21, 2018 – President Nazarbayev paid a working visit to Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

July 6, 2018 – President Mirziyoyev attended the 20th anniversary of Astana and the opening of the Astana International Financial Center.

October 20, 2018 – President Mirziyoyev visited Saryagash, Turkistan region, Kazakhstan.

April 14–15, 2019 – State visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (in office since March 20, 2019) to Uzbekistan.

November 28–29, 2019 – Former President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Tashkent to participate in the 2nd Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders.

In addition, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan hold regular telephone conversations on bilateral and multilateral cooperation matters. Since 2016, there have been 32 phone calls.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are united by a shared understanding of indivisible security, as well as common and similar approaches to key regional issues, which contributes to building friendly and constructive bilateral relations.
📜 Cooperation Between Legislative Bodies
There is steady progress in inter-parliamentary cooperation.

In 2018 and 2019, official visits were made by Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nurdin Ismoilov to Kazakhstan and by Chairman of the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin to Uzbekistan.

November 4–5, 2019 – Official visit of Chairwoman of the Senate of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva to Kazakhstan.

June 3–4, 2021 – Official visit of Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev to Uzbekistan.

February 8–10, 2022 – Official visit of Nurdin Ismoilov to Kazakhstan, during which the Agreement on the Establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Council was signed.

Regular bilateral meetings of parliamentary delegations are held within multilateral frameworks such as the CIS IPA and TurkPA. The latest of such meetings took place in February 2023 in Turkistan, during the 1st Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian Countries.

October 25–26, 2023 – Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov paid an official visit to Uzbekistan, during which the first meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Council was held.

May 13–14, 2024 – On the sidelines of the Asian Women's Forum held in Samarkand, Vice-Speaker of the Mazhilis D. Yesspayeva and Deputy Chair of the Senate O. Perepechina held a bilateral meeting with Senate Chairwoman T. Narbayeva.

September 11–12, 2024 – Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan M. Ashimbayev took part in the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian Countries in Khiva, where he met again with T. Narbayeva.
Regular meetings between the legislative delegations of both countries continue to take place under regional and international inter-parliamentary cooperation platforms.
